Why we like it
There’s secluded, and then there’s Wollumbin Palms secluded – 65 private acres of rainforest at the base of the mountain itself, with just three lodges tucked so far apart you could genuinely forget other guests exist.
This is the kind of place where the biggest decision of the day is whether to have your outdoor spa before or after the wood fire gets going. My pick for anyone who wants “getting away from it all” to mean it literally.

Each of the three lodges here has its own personality, which is rare enough to be worth shouting about.
- Air Lodge is a timber Mongolian yurt parked beside a garden stream.
- Earth Lodge sits up on the ridge with front-row views of Wollumbin (Mount Warning) itself.
- Water Lodge is a Javanese prayer house perched by a waterfall and lake.
All three come fully self-contained with an outdoor spa, a fireplace, air-con and – the detail everyone talks about – an open-air hot shower under the rainforest canopy.
It’s couples-only, and yes, that includes your dog: Wollumbin Palms is proudly pet-friendly, treats and dog bed included.

Couples, honestly, full stop. This is a "candlelit, forest-wrapped, do-not-disturb" kind of stay.Bedrooms
Each lodge is a one-bedroom affair, but “bedroom” undersells it. Think a custom-made bed dressed in quality linen, an outdoor spa just steps away, and a fireplace close enough to keep things cosy on a Tweed Valley night.
Air Lodge tucks its bed inside a timber yurt by the stream, Earth Lodge frames its views of Wollumbin like a piece of art, and Water Lodge sets the scene beside a waterfall and lake.
Whichever one you land in, expect Epsom salts by the tub, an outdoor hot shower under the canopy, and very little reason to get out of bed at all.
Things to do nearby
Most of the “activity” here is the kind that doesn’t require shoes: soak in the spa, doze by the fire, wander the walking tracks that cross the property’s own streams and gardens.
Keep half an eye out and you might spot wallabies, echidnas, glow worms or – if you’re very lucky – the property’s resident shy platypus.
For something more structured, the Tweed Range Scenic Drive delivers postcard rainforest views, Wollumbin National Park is minutes away for a proper day walk, and Byron Bay and the Gold Coast are both an easy drive if the outside world calls.
Most guests, though, report it doesn’t call very loudly from here!
Food and drink
Breakfast is included and can run Continental, full English/Irish or vegetarian, so nobody’s left hungry come morning.
Beyond that, guests tend to self-cater from their lodge kitchenette or head into nearby Uki and Murwillumbah, where the Tweed Valley’s café and produce scene punches well above its weight – think local coffee roasters, farm-gate stalls and small-town bakeries worth the short drive.
