Cape Nelson Lighthouse Cottages – a Maritime Victorian Adventure
Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottages
Why we like it
Staying at Cape Nelson Lighthouse means sleeping in history, perched above one of Australia’s most dramatic stretches of coastline.
With the Southern Ocean stretching endlessly ahead, this is a place that feels remote, meaningful and quietly powerful.
Originally built in the 1880s, the beautifully restored lighthouse keeper’s cottages sit at the base of the still‑working Cape Nelson Lighthouse.
Thoughtfully renovated, they retain their heritage character while offering warmth and comfort – especially welcome after a day exploring the wild coast.

Reviews for this accommodation:
The location is quiet, remote and dramatic. Very cool. The decor and historic touches were really lovely. The weather had been stormy all day, so it was a treat to have the log fire and hot tub in the evening. We had forgotten that breakfast was supplied, so we brought our own – but wished we hadn’t, because the supplied breakfast was excellent
Nature put on a spectacular show for us—whales spotted daily, a pod of dolphins, seals at Cape Bridgewater, and kangaroos and wallabies nearby. On our way out, we were even lucky enough to spot a koala!
